Morning Session: Luis Alfredo Narváez Gete, Vice Chancellor for Adult Education at City Colleges of Chicago

Luis Alfredo Narváez Gete

Luis serves as Vice Chancellor for Adult Education at the City Colleges of Chicago, where he leads free English as a Second Language, High School Equivalency, citizenship, computer literacy, and career bridge programs serving nearly 20,000 students annually.

In his previous role as Project Director at Chicago Public Schools, which he held for 10 years, he led the Seal of Biliteracy initiative, recognizing the biliteracy skills of K–12 students while promoting college awareness among bilingual, immigrant, and marginalized students across the city. He also helped develop the district’s first-ever scholarship program for undocumented immigrant students, the CPS DREAM Fund, which has supported more than 100 Dreamers in financing their college education.

Before that, he served as a recruiter, admissions counselor, and advisor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he earned his BA in Latin American & Caribbean Studies and Spanish. He also holds an MA in Educational Leadership through the ENLACE Leadership Institute at Northeastern Illinois University.

He is an alumnus of the New Leadership Academy and recently completed a fellowship with the National Community College Hispanic Council’s Ted Martinez, Jr. Leadership Program. He is also a graduate of the Latino Policy Forum’s Multicultural Leadership Academy and the Chicago Council on Global Affairs Emerging Leaders Program. He is currently participating in the Leadership Greater Chicago Fellowship, where he explores ways to continue supporting the growth and development of the City of Chicago.

He lives on Chicago’s West Side with his wife, Claudia, a Chicago Public Schools (CPS) teacher, their two sons, who also attend CPS schools, and their 8-year-old Yorkie.
