Literacy Advocates: We know recruiting tutors is no easy task…and keeping them can be challenging.

Numerous studies and people themselves tell us why they volunteer, but usually not why they leave. One reason we know is a lack of recognition.

Take this opportunity to show you care by nominating one or more for the Dorothy Miaso Tutor of the Year Award. The award will be presented at the 32nd On The Road to Literacy Conference to be held on Saturday, April 18, 2026 at Malcolm X College Conference Center

Nominations are easy to complete. Simply describe in the form below some of the activities that your volunteer has participated in that merit recognition. This can range from basic literacy, ESL, and math tutoring to classroom instruction or other areas in which his or her talents, skills and experiences had an impact on your program and your learners.

Nominations will be judged by individuals familiar with adult literacy and volunteerism.

  • All nominees are recognized at the conference and in a commemorative program.
  • Outstanding Tutors receive a certificate and small gift.
  • The Tutor of the Year receives a framed certificate and gift, plus
  • The nominating agency receives a $250 donation in tutor’s name.
  • Conference registration is complimentary for all nominees.

We thank you for the fine work you are doing in your community and hope you find our Conference complementary to your efforts. We look forward to seeing you on April 18th.

Please submit nominations by Wednesday, April 8, 2026. Note: A Google account is required.
